Decopatch – a brief history
What is Decopatch
Decopatch paper is a lightweight, finely printed tissue paper which can be torn or cut, it is not in the Dictionary but if it was it would probably say –
“to Decopatch” verb, tearing or cutting of paper to adhere onto a surface, cardboard, metal , wood , plastic, ceramic, for indoor or outdoor use.
Its origins
For many years people have crafted as a hobby, different countries have favoured different crafts, possibly because availability of materials, Decoupage, the process of cutting and sticking printed cut outs onto a surface first appeared in France in the 17th century, the craft spread across Europe and in those early days people decorated furniture, giving it a makeover .
Modern Day
Back in the 1990’s a Frenchman , unhappy with the availability of designs to decorate objects with started designing and manufacturing his own patterns, he found a leightweight tissue and produced designs with striking designs and went into production, it was a huge success in
So successful was the product that it caught the eye of a large paper company who were able to take the product and promote it globally,
Who can use Decopatch
Anyone can do Decopatch it is so versatile, it can be done by children, adults, people with learning difficulties, other than the paper the glue varnish is waterbased and carries the EU 3+ rating to signify safe use by children.
